I absolutely adore Valletta, its my favourite city in the whole world!
However my most favourite thing to do lies just outside of the city walls.
When visiting Malta's breath-taking capital city, I always ensure I have time to visit the spectacular Hotel Phoenicia's Palm Court Lounge (or terrace, weather permitting)
The Phoenicia Malta, was the island’s very first 5-star hotel, and has been open for over 75 years! Construction of the property began in the 1930's and the works were only fully completed after the second world war, with the first guests being welcomed on the 3rd of November 1947.
Since then it has earned itself a very prestigious reputation, once you visit, you'll understand why when I say that there is something very regal and very grand about this beautiful property.
It's a decadent oasis and hideaway, an escape from the hustle and bustle you find within the city walls. It's an enchanting glimpse of yesteryear and the service is impeccable.
Open daily from 8am - 10pm the lounge serves something to suit everyone's taste and pocket. From a cup of tea or coffee to one of the many aperitifs, cocktails, mocktails, soft drinks, beers and wines the menu offers.
Food is also served from noon, mainly lite bites, sandwiches, cakes, salads etc and they also serve a delectable more substantial afternoon tea between 2 and 6pm.
Whilst lingering here a while, my self treat is always a gorgeously chilled glass of champagne. My favourite, the divine Barons de Rothschild Brut, it's the most delicious champagne I've ever tasted and trust me I've sampled quite a few over the years!
The sofas are meltingly comfortable and the lounge itself is simply stunning at any time of year. As a solo traveller, I always feel very welcomed and very at ease here.
I encourage you not to be daunted by the property's opulence, the Phoenicia may be a stranger to you now, but once you have visited the Palm Court Lounge, you will be friends for life!
